Cloud Computing

As the emergence of cloud based solutions has gathered momentum, we have examined a number of models to provide customers with the option of delivering solutions from a centralised off premise location rather than from their own offices. This way of delivering Platforms, Infrastructure or Software has formed the basis of what the market has adopted as the “Cloud”. We manage customers that operate some or all of their business from the cloud. We have the expertise to guide you through the right options for your organisation.

With the cloud being heralded as the new way of managing and delivering IT, much of the talk is about what type of Cloud is right for your business - Public, Private or Hybrid?

A public cloud is based on the standard cloud computing model where a service provider makes resources, available to the general public over the Internet. Public cloud services may be free or offered on a pay-per-usage model.

The term "public cloud" differentiates between the standard model and the private cloud, which is a proprietary network or data centre that uses cloud computing technologies, such as virtualisation.

A private cloud is managed by the organisation providing the service to the customer or by the customer directly. This can be for a specified service or for an entire infrastructure for the customer. It is delivered from a centralised location, generally a Data Centre and the hardware, software and storage that is providing the solution is only used for that customer, thus ensuring the security and management of the information is entirely private and not in a multi tenancy environment.

We provide customers with their own Private Clouds or a third model, the hybrid cloud. The Hybrid cloud allows aspects of a customer’s IT infrastructure or applications to be delivered either on premise or from the cloud and managed by both Unity and the customer. A key driver for this is the ability to get a centrally delivered solution from a pay as you use “Opex” model rather than a “Capex” model. Our Private Cloud solutions are scalable, elastic and flexible. Private cloud provides a flexible storage model, helps reduce energy consumption, increases resilience and improves disaster recovery capabilities.

Unity are happy to discuss how best to deliver the correct strategy for your business and whether the Cloud is a realistic option for some or all of your IT delivery now and in the future.

Unified Communications - Microsoft Lync

Unity Technology Solutions are a leading Microsoft Lync partner in Ireland.

In response to today’s changing work styles and the need for real-time collaboration, organisations are looking for integrated productivity tools that enable users to communicate from anywhere in a cost-effective and secure manner. Microsoft Lync Server 2010 connects users in new way, regardless of their physical location.

Microsoft Lync delivers a fresh, intuitive user experience that brings together the different ways people can communicate over a single interface.  This unified experience facilitates rapid adoption, while the ability to support a full range of communications from a single platform reduces both capital and operational costs. Because Lync is broadly interoperable, it fits into existing IT infrastructure for easier deployment and migration.

Microsoft Lync 2010 is the rich client application that provides presence, IM, voice, and ad hoc collaboration and online meeting capabilities through a single interface. Lync 2010 is easy to use, works closely with familiar tools such as SharePoint and Office applications, and drives user adoption with powerful features and a streamlined communications experience.

With the advancement of the cloud model, telephony is becoming another “app” embedded in an overall enterprise platform – a piece of technology that can be used on demand, without the massive investment in communications architecture that it once required.

Unity prides itself on embracing “out of the blocks” technology. We work with partners that are at the forefront of Telephony as a Service. We have deployed Microsoft Lync across our own enterprise and connected it to our existing telephony system – demonstrating that your existing telephony assets can still be maximized using TaaS.

IP telephony as a service opens up the opportunity for cost savings and the use of advanced services for all organisations.
